I'll be honest, there isn't a thing as not breaking. Everyone does eventually. 'Least, that's what I been told, and I believe the bird who told me.

She said, best way to get one over is to give 'em lies. They won't know the difference. Torture ain't... efficient.

[A sigh in return, though one of acknowledgment. She's probably right.]

[He pauses, mulling it over:] ...I'm afraid of what I don't know. Which is a lot.

[poleaxed]

I don't reckon they put clever folk in charge of torture. Seems to me a job perfect for weak sorts who get off on having power. I've known some professional torturers, at least, that's what they called themselves. May be different in Tevinter, I'll grant you.

[What with, you know, the blood magic and all.]

[altusimperius]

I think we'd both be surprised.

[All he has to go from was that dream, but with everything that added up and made sense, there came some chilling truths.]

...but I'm not asking to be flayed alive. Combat training hasn't killed me yet, I don't see how this would have to be much different.

[poleaxed]

[poleaxed]

Ha! [The snap of fingers.] That's a clever plan, luv. Thinking on your feet already, I reckon. I'll do it.

I've been gone, so it's hard to say.

[A defeated sigh,] ...but I've got a pretty good guess.

What do you imagine our options to be? There's no one above him to command him to rest, and I don't think he'll listen to either of us. I'm tempted to drug his coffee, frankly, but that probably won't go over well either.

We don't have many. The longer it goes on, the more stubborn he gets. I've thought about just casting Sleep when he's not looking, but.

[An awkward pause.]

Probably about as well as lacing his coffee. [ A sigh. ] Too close to blood magic for most Fereldens.

[ Personally, she finds all magic has its uses. ]

I don't want you to get in trouble with him, so I won't suggest anything I'm unwilling to do myself.

Especially in his current state, I don't think Byerly would take too kindly to what could be construed as actual sabotage.

Even if it's... not. [It's almost audible as he pinches the bridge of his nose.]

I've threatened him with his wife a few times. I'm not certain Sidony knows how bad it's gotten.

I'd follow through with that threat. I know he's ignored her concerns before but perhaps we can bombard him into doing better by himself.

[altusimperius]

Perhaps.

Whatever the case, he's not going to listen to me. And if he suspects my involvement, probably all the worse.
